The deadline: before November 30
To switch insurer on January 1, your cancellation letter must reach your current insurer by November 30. What counts is the reception date, not the sending date — post it several days early, always by registered mail for proof.
The template letter
Your letter must include: full name, address and insured number, the sentence "I cancel my basic LAMal insurance as of December 31, 2026", the date and your signature. No reason needed. Polia auto-generates this pre-filled PDF when you run a comparison — just print and send.
Beware of supplementaries (LCA)
The November 30 deadline applies only to basic LAMal. Supplementaries (LCA) follow other rules: often 3 months' notice, sometimes multi-year commitment. Check your terms, and never cancel supplementaries before you are certain to be accepted elsewhere (insurers can refuse).
